The tool is designed to help small and medium-sized companies take their first steps in ESG reporting. It makes it easy and clear to describe the company's efforts and initiatives in a report that can be further developed and used both internally and externally.

How does the tool work?

ESG stands for Environment, Social and Governance, and in our tool we work with the three letters as layers: The ECONOMIC layer, the SOCIAL layer and the ENVIRONMENTAL layer.

Each layer consists of nine building blocks based on the recognized business model Business Model Canvas. For each building block, there are inspirational questions that guide you through the process and help you fill in the different parts of the report.

The tool then creates a nice report that you can download and work on later.

Now you have a report with a lot of text (depending on how thorough you have been with your wording), but the report is not a definitive ESG report. You can subsequently add any necessary data yourself, and the report should be revisited and updated approximately once a year.

New thoughts on strategies and actions at PIPER ApS

PIPER ApS in Grindsted has worked with the sustainability tool in collaboration with Billund Erhverv and Kim Søgaard from Buchhave Rådgivning.

PIPER ApS is an advertising and sign company that produces signs, advertisements, labels and graphic design.

At PIPER ApS, thinking sustainably is not new. The company works with a long-term and responsible focus, where sustainability, profitability and development go hand in hand. The company believes that economic success can be combined with social and environmental considerations, and this belief is deeply rooted in the way it does business.

When Uffe Hansen, CEO of PIPER ApS, was first presented with the tool, it sparked new thoughts about the company's future, but at the same time it became clear how to work with the building blocks:

"We have a really good tool here, and it was really just a matter of getting started. We have been guided through the different layers of the E, S and G, so that in the end we have a really good starting point for a sustainability report. It is also clear that it sparks new thoughts and perspectives on strategies and actions when we focus on sustainability in this way. We also want to have a good and sustainable company in the future.", says Uffe Hansen, CEO of PIPER ApS.

The UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals are part of the report

In addition to the three ESG layers, the sustainability tool also includes a fourth layer: the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals provide companies with a framework for working purposefully with sustainable development and responsible business practices, and Billund Erhverv recommends that companies choose to focus on 1-3 of the goals.

PIPER ApS has chosen to work with the following three global goals: 3. Health and well-being, 7. Sustainable energy and 12. Responsible consumption and production. To achieve these goals, the company has introduced a number of concrete initiatives.

In production, PIPER ApS, for example, has a strong focus on waste, garbage and recycling, and over recent years the company has significantly reduced waste from, for example, cleaning processes and felts for printers.

"I would estimate that today we only have a waste of about 10% compared to what we had 10 years ago. This is a result that I am very proud of, as we have worked specifically to reduce and manage waste and waste.", says Uffe Hansen, CEO of PIPER ApS.
